The US$5.6bn Mafumeira Sul project, currently at the second stage of development on the Mafumeira Field in Block 0, is located 24km offshore Cabinda province at a depth of 60 metres.

George Kirkland, vice-chairman of Chevron Corporation, said, “This decision demonstrates our commitment to further developing opportunities in Angola where Chevron already has a leading position.”

The project scope will include 50 wells, two wellhead platforms, a central processing and compression facility and approximately 121km of subsea pipelines.

Ali Moshiri, president of Chevron Africa and Latin America Exploration and Production, commented, “When completed, this project is expected to increase the company’s production capacity in the Mafumeira Field.

“This development will help in augmenting the success of the Mafumeira Norte project and our strong track record of developing other major capital projects in the region,” Moshiri added.

Mafumeira Sul is expected to reach oil in 2015 and build toward a peak total daily production of 110,000 barrels of crude oil and 10,000 barrels of liquefied petroleum gas at later stages. Associated natural gas will be commercialised through the Angola Liquefied Natural Gas plant in Soyo, Angola.
