Dana planning further wells in Gulf of Suez

UK INDEPENDANT DANA Petroleum plans to drill an exploration well this year in the South October concession in the eastern Gulf of Suez offshore Egypt.

The well, targeting the Nefertiti prospect, will be drilled from an onshore location to allow an extended test in the event of a discovery.
Last year, Dana drilled the SE July structure in the same region. Although dry, the well did encounter reservoir, and the company is evaluating further exploration prospects in the concession.
Dana has also been participating in a BP-run project to re-process seismic in the Gulf of Suez. The area covered includes Dana’s producing East Zeit field, where water breakthrough on one of the main wells constrained production last year.
Data quality over the Gulf of Suez is poor, the company says, but using the revised data to target new wells should de-risk future activities in the region. The East Zeit partners plan to drill one new well this year, and are considering a program of re-developments in the future.
In the offshore Nile Delta, Dana is participating on a well on the Bamboo prospect in the West El Burullus concession. The well, drilled by GDF Suez, is targeting Bambo, a deeper-lying and potential much larger gas structure than the recent Papyrus-1X discovery in the same permit.
