Total is set to be granted 100 per cent interest over Block L22 offshore Kenya, following a deal with the Kenyan government

The production sharing contract sees Total, one of the largest global oil and gas companies, gain licence over an area covering more than 10,000 sq km of the Indian Ocean and with depths of up to 3,500 meters, situated off the northern coast of Kenya.

Total senior vice president for exploration and production in Africa, Jacques Marraud des Grottes, said, “This most recent award is aligned with Total’s strategy of building a strong presence in the new basins of East Africa offering high-potential plays for exploration by leveraging our internationally-recognised deep offshore expertise.”

Having been active in the country since 1955, Kenya is one of Total’s longest established host countries.
