Minexco will be joined on the block by Signet Petroleum who will hold the remaining 10 per cent stake.

Both firms signed an agreement regarding operational rights on Block SL7A-10 with the Petroleum Directorate of Sierra Leone last month, which has since been ratified by the country's parliament.

The 3490 sq km block is located in water depths of up to 3,000 metres and was, according to Minexco, "one of the most sought after blocks in the recent Sierra Leone licensing round".

Minexco and Signet will target deepwater turbidite channel plays on Block SL7A-10 and will utilise all available 2D and 3D seismic data in order to get the most out of the block, which they believe has a similar high impact potential as the adjacent Block 7B-11 operated by Anadarko.
