Spain’s Repsol to commence drilling offshore Namibia in 2014

(Image source: Tsuda/Flickr)The National Petroleum Corporation of Namibia (NAMCOR) has announced that Spanish oil and gas company Repsol is expected to commence drilling its first well in the Walvis Basin offshore Namibia in early 2014

Repsol is currently the operator of the Welwitschia-1 well in the basin. It has a 44 per cent interest in the license, while its partners Tower Resources and Arcadia Expro occupy 30 per cent and a 26 per cent interests respectively.

According to a Reuters news report, NAMCOR exploration and production officer Manfriedt Muundjua said that Chariot Oil and Gas has confirmed that it was looking to drill its Central Block offshore Walvis Bay in the second half of 2014, provided a partner was found.

BP, which has a 30 percent stake in Block 2513 in the Luderitz Bay, is also expected to start drilling before the end of next year, Reuters added.
