The temporary, precautionary measure was taken when the ammunitions were discovered by a seismic survey team.

Total operates in Exploration Area 1 (EA1) that includes Nwoya district, Murchison Falls national park, and parts of Nebbi.

"After the second discovery (of the ammunitions), Total E&P Uganda decided to suspend its 3D seismic activity to avoid putting its personnel and UWA rangers at risk," Ahlem Friga-Noy, Total's corporate affairs manager, was quoted as saying by Uganda's Observer.

"Consequently, we decided to declare the force majeure on the 3D operations to give it the necessary time to assess the risk and to take appropriate measures."

Total called in a demining company to assess the risks and the ammunitions have now been dealt with.
