Uganda to issue production licence

Uganda is likely to issue an oil production licence by the middle of this year, a senior government official has said.

Commissioner for Petroleum Exploration and Production Department Ernst Rubondo announced that the company has received an application for production licences from London-listed Tullow Oil.

“That process will take a while but you could say by mid this year we'll have handed out the first production licence," he said.

Tullow had applied for production licences for three oil fields – Mputa, Nzizi and Waraga – all in Block 2, Rubondo revealed.
