The well commenced production at a natural flow rate of around 3,000 boepd, which will increase to 4,000 boepd, VAALCO confirmed.

The rig, the KCA Deutag ‘Ben Rinnes,’ will be shifted onto location to drill an exploration well to assess a fault block on the South West border of the Ebouri field with the Gambia reservoir as the primary target, the company stated.

The well will also test a secondary objective in Dentale formation.

The Ben Rinnes rig will then be used to drill an additional exploration well, Prospect Mu, to the North of the Etame field.

The well will be drilled in 60m of water to a depth of 2,700m to assess the Gambia reservoir and the underlying Lucina formation.

Studies carried out by VAALCO and its group partners with regard to Prospect Mu reveal that potential reserves in excess of 30mn gross barrels of oil are expected to be retrievable.
