Mozambique is likely to sign natural gas contracts with Anadarko Petroleum and Eni for its offshore reserves in 2014

According to an Energy Mix report, Mozambique mineral resources minister Esperança Bias said the signing of contracts may result in production of natural gas in the southeast African nation by 2018.

“To ensure that gas can start flowing in 2018, we aim to have the contracts signed by July 2014,” said Bias.

Reports suggest that about 4.24 trillion cubic metres of gas have been found off the country’s shores.

Mozambique is seen to be emerging as a key prospect for the export of liquefied natural gas (LNG) because of its location en-route to Asia and buyers are trying to diversify away from big suppliers like Qatar and Australia, according to Reuters.
