With this well, the company has reached its initial production target for the natural gas project Disouq. Several additional wells and the start-up of the central treatment plant later this year will further boost the ouput, the RWE Dea added.

RWE Dea has also confirmed the recent tie-in and production start of development well NWK-1-4. In March this year, the well was successfully drilled to delimit the northwestern part of the North West Khilala (NWK) field. The well was flowed at a rate of 481,386 standard cubic metres of gas per day during clean-up testing, the Germany-headquartered company added.

It is RWE Dea’s fourth well on stream at the natural gas project Disouq in the Nile Delta.

Maximilian Fellner, general manager of RWE Dea Egypt, said, “We are pleased, that the NWK Field has now reached its production target of 1.7mn standard cubic metres of gas per day in line with our initial expectations.

“RWE Dea remains committed to supplying natural gas to meet the needs of Egypt’s growing energy demand. The current NWK production along with planned production from the main Disouq central treatment plant later this year, will form an important contribution to Egypt’s domestic gas production.”

RWE Dea’s operated Disouq project encompasses the development of seven gas fields in the Nile Delta and NWK is the first field brought into production in September 2013. Together with the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS) and the Suez Oil Company (SUCO), RWE Dea plans to produce a total of approximately 12bn standard cubic metres of gas from the seven gas fields in the first phase of the Disouq development project.
