Eni has announced the discovery of oil reserves in Block 15/06, located 150 km offshore Angola

The company said that the new oil discovery is estimated to contain 300mn barrels of oil and indicates a production capacity of more than 5,000 bpd.

Claudio Descalzi, CEO at Eni, said, ”This important discovery, which will be brought into production in record time, adds even more value to Block 15/06.

”Like the recent discoveries in DR Congo and Gabon, this new find exemplifies the results we can achieve by applying leading edge technologies to exploration, and substantiates the decision to refocus Eni on key oil and gas competences.”

Eni also revealed that the well was drilled by the Ocean Rig Poseidon’s drilling unit in a water depth of 1,337 metres and reached a total depth of 4,470 metres.

Eni is the operator of the Block 15/06 with a 35 per cent stake. The other partners of the joint venture (JV) committed to the block are Sonangol P&P with 30 per cent stake, SSI Fifteen Limited with 25 per cent stake and Falcon Oil Holding Angola SA and Statoil Angola with five per cent stake each, the Italian firm added.
