(Image source: Dredging International)Under the terms of a new agreement, Gasol affiliate African Power Generation (Afgen) will work with Dredging International on dredging, marine engineering and pipeline construction works for Afgen's proposed LNG Import Project in Cotonou harbour, Benin

According to the agreement, the parties will work together to develop the detailed specifications and agreements for the project.

Alan Buxton, COO of Gasol, said, “Our alliance with Dredging International substantially de-risks our Benin LNG Import Project. Dredging International will lead a consortium which represents the very best in dredging technique, land reclamation and marine engineering.

“The company’s familiarity with Cotonou harbour, given the recent work they have undertaken for the port authority, means that they are the most suited partner for us. The fact that we have been able to conclude such a strategic alliance is an endorsement of the development work done by Gasol and its affiliate Afgen on behalf of the project.”

The key work areas for Gasol will be turnkey design for the project, soil investigation, breakwater construction, pipeline and associated LNG vessels' infrastructure design.

Dredging International will assist Afgen in the technical and commercial optimisation of the project, including the use of dredging waste in forming reclaimed land.

Lieven Durt, sub-Sahara Africa area director at Dredging International, commented, “We are delighted to be working with Afgen to help them undertake the dredging, land reclamation, marine engineering and pipeline construction work for their Benin LNG Import Project.

"Creating this strategic alliance allows Dredging International to work with Afgen in partnership to optimise the LNG project,” he added.
