WorleyParsons has won a contract from Samsung Heavy Industries to provide design and engineering for a floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel for an oilfield offshore Nigeria

The project will be executed under Nigeria’s local law, under which WorleyParsons, Australian-based engineering company, will support efforts to engage and invest in local capacity building and development. The deal is worth over US$100mn.

The contract will be executed in Lagos in conjunction with a consortium of Nigerian engineering companies — NETCO, DeltaAfrik and International Energy Services Limited (IESL), with technical support from WorleyParsons.

The scope of work includes the modularised topsides crude oil processing facilities, natural gas compression facilities, power generation, compression, metering systems, flare systems and various other utilities in support of the overall operation of the FPSO. The topsides’ weight is 34,000 tons.

SHI said the FPSO — ordered from Nigeria for US$3bn — is expected to have a capacity of  2.3mn barrels of crude oil and the facility will be deployed for offshore crude production in the second half of 2017.

Andrew Wood, chief executive officer of WorleyParsons, said, “This important award builds on the successful relationship we have with SHI and represents a strong development of our ability to locally support the offshore oil and gas business in West Africa.”
