UGANDA National Oil Co anticipates commencing oil production from the Tilenga project in the first half of 2025, according to the company’s CEO, Proscovia Nabbanja

He shared the update during an Energy Asia conference, stating that drilling has already commenced and they are on track to achieve their goal.

"The drill kits have been put up and the drilling has started. We are on track for first oil in H1 2025," Nabbanja told Reuters.

The Tilenga project is situated in the Buliisa and Nwoya districts within Uganda’s Lake Albert oilfields. It is operated by French energy major TotalEnergies in collaboration with China’s CNOOC Ltd and UNOC.

The development marks a significant milestone for Uganda’s oil industry, as the Tilenga project is expected to contribute to the country’s economic growth and energy sector.
